The brief called for an iconic building that would captivate the city by highlighting the creative power of human beings and embracing a contemporary and contextual style. The design had to be in balance with its environment, which includes the adjacent residential area. A harmonious balance through the responsive symbiotic integration of natural, built, social and cultural elements inform the core design concept. The result is a welcoming visitors' sanctuary that fosters a sense of stewardship towards the city. A glazed diagrid structure encapsulates public spaces and establishes visual integration with a new pedestrian boulevard – lined with Jacaranda trees. In response to a suburban residential scale, the building steps down to two storeys on the north, resulting in a seamless transition at this sensitive residential boundary. Centrally located green courtyards ensure both guest and neighbour privacy. The entire roof of the building will be covered in endemic landscaping; ensuring that the building blends in with the green fabric of the neighbourhood.
