Curro Nelspruit is a private school within The Rest Nature Estate. The project entailed the masterplanning for the school as well as the design of the individual buildings. The school accommodates a nursery school, primary school and high school. Ancillary services include laboratory buildings, a school hall, an administration building and sports fields. Located within a residential estate, the design had to comply with the estate’s architectural guidelines, which limits the building to a maximum of two storeys. The building is divided into smaller personalised structures, each housing 18 classrooms. This differentiation provides learning environments where each age group can feel comfortable and secure. This fragmented design follows the contours of the site, which has quite a steep slope, and results in dramatic views towards Nelspruit’s city centre.
