ARCA Unlimited Architects was commissioned by a returning client to transform an existing residence in Illovo, Sandton, into a contemporary home better suited to modern family living and entertaining. The brief focused on enhancing the home’s architectural presence, re-imagining the entrance façade, improving solar control to the extensive glazing, and creating additional entertainment spaces that would strengthen the connection between indoor and outdoor living. The design intervention introduced a carefully crafted palette of exposed concrete, steel, and timber elements that bring depth, warmth, and character to the architecture. A sculpted concrete wall define the arrival experience and create a sense of discovery throughout the property. Strategic openings within these walls frame carefully considered views, offering glimpses into gardens, courtyards, and living spaces beyond. As visitors move through the home, these moments unfold as a sequence of reveals, enriching the spatial experience and creating a layered architectural journey. The result is a refined contemporary residence that balances privacy, environmental responsiveness, and sophisticated living while giving the home a distinctive and enduring architectural identity.
