ARCA Unlimited was commissioned to design these residential units in Muckleneuk. The client required a design that would maximise site capacity, while still providing residents with views and privacy. An apartment layout was created and duplicated across different configurations on the site to determine the best views and sun angles and also to maximise available parking space. The design is highly contextual in approach and addresses a void in Muckleneuk by responding to the market demand for high-end residential property. The site borders two corners of a dominant intersection of Florence Ribeiro Avenue and the design is centred on the façade facing this busy street. It is responsive to both the climate and unique style of Pretoria: long, outward-facing stoeps limit solar heat gain and suit the vernacular of the area. This element of outward living is balanced by an internal courtyard as private residential area.
