Located in Brooklyn, Pretoria, Artiste transforms the former home of artist Rudolph Vosser into a contemporary multi-unit residential development. Once known for its creative character and social gatherings, the property had fallen into disrepair. ARCA’s design retains the spirit of the original house, outbuildings and gardens, using their informal arrangement as the basis for a small residential village of individually designed homes around shared landscaped spaces.

The original house was carefully modernised and integrated with new units that reinterpret the existing red brick and corrugated roof palette through contemporary concrete, glass and steel. Existing structures, materials, mature planting and garden elements were preserved and reused where possible. Named in recognition of Vosser, Artiste gives the site a renewed residential future while retaining its history, individuality and sense of place.
